This is not a traditional solutions engineering role, a support role, or a product manager role, though it touches all three. You will not carry a quota, own a backlog, or run tickets. You will shape what gets built by understanding, better than anyone, how accounting systems work and ensuring the product and implementation of that product serves the customer’s needs. What you'll do Be the subject matter expert on accounting and the finance tech stack Own the technical accounting point of view inside Tabs: ASC 606 revenue recognition, performance obligations and SSP allocation, contract modifications, variable consideration, usage and consumption billing, deferred revenue, multi-element arrangements, and the audit trail behind all of it. Review product designs, data models, and integration specs for correct accounting policy application, and advise product and engineering on tradeoffs and recommendations Write and maintain the internal reference for how Tabs handles accounting: the "why" behind rev rec logic, SSP policies, journal entry mappings and month-end close workflows Train the go-to-market and post-sales teams on accounting concepts and on how to communicate with a controller. Be the voice of the customer across the full journey Pre-sales: join calls with prospects' finance leaders, in close partnership with our existing solutions consultants, to understand how they bill, recognize revenue, and close today, validate that Tabs fits, and flag early where it does not. Implementation: sit alongside the implementation team on complex accounts. Help translate a customer's contract structures, rev rec policy, and chart of accounts into a Tabs configuration that their auditors will accept. Post-sale, the part that matters most: build standing relationships with the controllers and accountants who use Tabs every day. Run regular customer conversations, office hours, and account reviews focused on whether the product is working for them, not on renewal. Turn what you hear into structured, prioritized feedback for product managers: what customers are working around, what they do not trust, what they are doing in spreadsheets because the product does not do it yet. Bring evidence, not anecdotes. Partner with product managers on discovery and on acceptance criteria for finance-facing features. Be the first user of anything that touches the close. Be the spokesperson for the profession Represent the CPA and controller inside Tabs. When a trade-off is being made, make sure the end user's reality is on the table. Represent Tabs to the profession: speak at and attend industry events, contribute to content and webinars, engage with the accounting community, and build credibility with the auditors and fractional CFO firms our customers rely on. Keep current on standard-setting, regulatory changes, and shifts in how finance teams work, and bring that back into the roadmap. What you bring Required CPA (active or inactive) and 7+ years in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience. with meaningful time as a controller, revenue accountant, or senior accounting manager at a B2B SaaS or subscription company. You have owned a close and been through an audit on the other side of the table. Deep, practical command of ASC 606. You have written a rev rec policy or defended one to auditors. Hands-on experience administering or implementing a billing system, rev rec system or ERP. You understand the data flow between quote, contract, invoice, cash, and GL, and where it breaks. You are comfortable on customer calls and can hold your own with a CFO, a controller, and a staff accountant in the same meeting. You explain complex accounting plainly and listen more than you talk. You can translate between finance people and product and engineering teams. You have worked closely with a software team before, as a stakeholder, a power user, or in a product role. You write clearly. Much of this job is turning a messy customer conversation into a crisp, prioritized note a PM can act on. Analytical and data-driven. You back up what customers tell you with what their data shows, and you are comfortable in a spreadsheet, a report builder, or a SQL query. Experience designing or operating SOX-grade controls, audit trails, and role-based permissions over revenue and journal entries. Nice to have Time in public accounting (Big 4 or regional) with SaaS clients. Experience at a finance software company in solutions, implementation, product, or customer success. A record of shipping software with engineers, in any seat. You have turned an accounting framework into requirements, acceptance criteria, or a data model and seen it through to release. Familiarity with IFRS 15, multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation, and usage-based pricing models. An existing voice in the accounting community: speaking, writing, podcast appearances, or an active professional network of controllers and fractional CFOs. Enough technical fluency to read an API doc, inspect a webhook payload, or sketch a data model with an engineer. Interest in where AI fits in the close: pre-close anomaly flagging, explaining changes in balances, and recommending accounting treatments with a human in the loop. How success is measured First 90 days You have been through the product end to end as a customer would: contract ingestion, invoicing, rev rec, ERP sync, collections. You’ve mastered our current rev rec product experience, in particular, and you’ve honed a perspective on where we should continue to develop it. You have joined and led customer conversations across pre-sales, implementation, and live accounts, and have standing relationships with a handful of customer controllers. You have published the first version of the internal accounting reference and run at least one training session for the go-to-market, implementation and customer success teams. Product managers are pulling you into discovery without being asked. Ongoing Quality of feedback: product can point to roadmap decisions that changed because of what you brought back from customers. Accounting correctness: fewer escalations rooted in rev rec or ERP sync behavior; features that touch the close ship without accounting rework. Customer trust: live customers name you as the person at Tabs who understands their job. Health and expansion on the accounts you cover trend better than the base. Internal fluency: sales, implementation, and support answer accounting questions consistently, and bring you the hard ones early rather than late. External presence: Tabs is visible and credible in the accounting community, and that shows up in inbound and in how auditors and advisors talk about us. Perks and Benefits (Full-time Employees) Competitive compensation and equity Unlimited PTO Up to 100% employer covered monthly healthcare premium (medical, dental, vision) Lunch provided via Sharebite, plus dinner for any later in office days. Parental leave up to 12 weeks Tax free commuter and parking benefits Voluntary insurances (Life, Hospital, Critical Illness, Accident) Employee Assistance Program (Rightway) Free One Medical Membership 401k Tabs is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome teammates of all identities and do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone can grow, contribute, and feel comfortable being themselves.

About the role

The Accounting Solutions Architect sits as part of the Founder’s Office at Tabs, with close partnership between Product, Post-Sales (Implementation; Customer Success); and GTM (Marketing; Sales), reporting to Tabs’ Co-Founder. It is a senior individual contributor role with two mandates: serve as an accounting and audit expert in the company, and ensure customer needs are top-of-mind from sales to post-sales to product. You are the practitioner's advocate inside Tabs and the face of Tabs to the profession outside it.

What you'll do

Be the subject matter expert on accounting and the finance tech stack

  • Own the technical accounting point of view inside Tabs: ASC 606 revenue recognition, performance obligations and SSP allocation, contract modifications, variable consideration, usage and consumption billing, deferred revenue, multi-element arrangements, and the audit trail behind all of it.

  • Review product designs, data models, and integration specs for correct accounting policy application, and advise product and engineering on tradeoffs and recommendations
