Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
The UI Platform team, known as Sail, builds the foundations that support Stripe’s Dashboard and many of Stripe’s other user interfaces. The Sail UI team owns Stripe’s design system, helping Stripe engineers create consistent, accessible, performant, and high-quality experiences at scale.
We build and maintain reusable components, design tokens, theming capabilities, documentation, and developer tooling used by engineers and designers across Stripe. We are currently focused on two major projects. First, we are building Sail for Agents: the generation infrastructure, documentation systems, agent integrations, and automated quality checks that help AI coding agents build high-quality Stripe interfaces safely and consistently at scale. Second, we are evolving the visual language of the Dashboard, one of Stripe’s largest UI surfaces, while modernizing its underlying codebase.
What you’ll do
As a Frontend Engineer on the Sail UI team, you’ll help build and evolve Stripe’s design system and the tools that enable engineers and AI coding agents to create high-quality user interfaces. You’ll independently drive frontend projects from problem definition through rollout, working closely with designers, product engineers, and other Sail engineers. Your work will range from reusable components, themes, and documentation to agentic tooling, automated quality checks, and modernizing the foundations of Stripe’s Dashboard.
Responsibilities
- Take end-to-end ownership of software projects, independently scoping problems and carrying solutions through design, implementation, testing, and rollout
- Build and maintain accessible, performant, and well-tested components, themes, and frontend APIs used across Stripe
- Build tooling, documentation, and automated quality checks that help engineers and AI coding agents use Sail effectively and meet Stripe’s UI quality bar
- Partner with product designers and engineers to understand their needs and turn recurring UI patterns into reusable design-system capabilities
- Help evolve the visual language of Stripe’s Dashboard while modernizing its underlying codebase and migrating legacy UI patterns
- Improve the accessibility, internationalization, observability, performance, reliability, and developer experience of the design system
- Contribute thoughtful code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation that improve the quality of the team’s work
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- Fluency in using AI-assisted and agentic development tools as part of day-to-day software engineering, including critically reviewing, validating, and improving generated code
- 2+ years of professional frontend engineering experience, or equivalent practical experience, building, shipping, and debugging web applications
- Strong knowledge of modern frontend technologies and frameworks, including browser fundamentals, responsive design, and accessibility
- Ability to independently scope and deliver open-ended frontend projects, making practical technical and product tradeoffs with limited oversight
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with attention to testing, maintainability, and the quality of the resulting user experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with designers, product engineers, and other partners
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working on a design system, frontend platform, or shared component library
- Experience with developer tooling such as build tools, package managers, codemods, lint rules, or large monorepos
- Experience building tools, integrations, or automated evaluation and quality systems for AI coding agents
- Experience using documentation, developer feedback, or adoption data to improve a developer-facing product
