We're building Bolt, a mobile manipulation platform: an autonomous mobile base carrying our robot arms. We're hiring two Senior Electrical Engineers for its electronics. One will focus on the safety system — the safety controller, dual-channel I/O, e-stop and safety-rated power cutoff, safety scanners and encoders, and the evidence that gets it certified. One will focus on upper/lower integration — the electrical architecture that joins arms, base, and control box: harnessing, connectors, communication buses, and the boards that bridge them. Both take designs from concept through production release and work hands-on in the lab and on the robot. 📍 Location This is an on-site role based at our new Boston-area office, where Bolt is designed, built, and tested, with some flexibility on days in the office once you're up to speed. About Standard Bots

At Standard Bots, we're revolutionizing real-world automation by making robotic systems accessible to everyone. Our AI-powered platform enables robots to tackle unprecedented challenges through an intuitive instruction interface, bringing the power of software automation to physical spaces.

What you'll do

📍 Location

This is an on-site role based at our new Boston-area office, where Bolt is designed, built, and tested, with some flexibility on days in the office once you're up to speed. On-site you'll have a fully equipped electronics lab, a test floor, and production robots steps from your desk.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and validation of PCBAs and electrical subsystems in your focus area from concept through production release

  • Safety focus: design the safety architecture with Functional Safety — safety PLC or safety controller, dual-channel inputs and outputs, STO and safe power cutoff, safety laser scanners, safety-rated encoders — and produce the design evidence for ISO 13849 PL d / Cat 3 certification

  • Integration focus: own the system electrical architecture — harness and connector design, bus topology (EtherCAT, CAN), power and signal distribution between arms, base, and control box — and lead bring-up of integrated prototypes

  • Do the hands-on, technically deep work: schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, test plans, and root-cause debugging

  • Lead design reviews, contribute to the component library and release process, and be a technical contact for PCB and harness vendors

  • Mentor associate and mid-level engineers

Who you are

We don't require a background in robotics — but we do require deep, hands-on electronics experience. We find most success with engineers from industrial automation, machinery safety, automotive, or aerospace who want to apply that depth to robots they can watch move. Our ideal candidate expects to spend roughly 60% of their time on design and 40% on lab, integration, and manufacturing support.

Skills you'll bring

  • Experience: Bachelor's or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering (or related) and 5+ years designing, building, and testing PCBAs and electrical systems, including designs you've taken through production release

  • EE Depth: Strong in digital electronics (MCUs, Ethernet, SPI/I2C/UART), analog and sensing, power sequencing and protection, and system-level grounding and EMC

  • Focus Depth: Either safety-rated design (ISO 13849 / IEC 62061 / IEC 61508 — redundant architectures, diagnostics, STO, safety fieldbus) or system integration (harness and connector design, bus topology, bring-up of multi-board systems)

  • Tool Fluency: Proficient in Altium Designer for schematic capture and multi-layer layout; harness tooling (Altium Harness, Rapid Harness, or similar) a plus

  • Debugging Mastery: Scope, logic/protocol analyzer, and bench instruments; you document what you find and converge on a fix quickly

  • Clarity of Communication: Clear design documentation, crisp trade studies, and design reviews that make your peers better

  • Impact Driven: A reliable, manufacturable board that ships beats an elegant one that never leaves the lab

  • Excelling in Ambitious Environments: You thrive in a fast-moving team with changing requirements and tight timelines

Bonus points for

  • Mobile robot safety: ISO 3691-4 / ANSI R15.08, safety laser scanners, safe speed and field switching

  • AMR navigation and localization hardware: lidar and camera integration, IMU and wheel odometry, RTK-GNSS, indoor RTLS (UWB or similar)

  • Real-time industrial fieldbuses (EtherCAT, CAN/CANopen, EtherNet/IP, CIP Safety / FSoE)

  • Motor control and encoder interfaces; battery and high-current power distribution

  • EMC/EMI design and compliance testing (CE/UL, IEC 61000 series)

  • Taking products from prototype through NPI to volume manufacturing

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $195,000, depending on experience. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
