Director of Engineering | Nox Metals | Los Angeles, CA
About Nox Metals. American factories deserve a supply chain that moves as fast as they do. Nox Metals is building it, along with the tools that run it. We’re a technology company with operations in Metro Detroit and Los Angeles, supplying aluminum plate, bar, and rounds to aerospace and defense manufacturers. We use software and automation to supply metal to American factories faster than the industry thought possible.
The role. We’re hiring a Director of Engineering to build the software organization and systems that run Nox Metals. You will own technical direction, engineering execution, and team development across customer software, internal operations, data, infrastructure, and applied machine learning.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will make architecture and hiring decisions, but you will also get close to the code, the factory floor, and the people using what we build. The goal is not software for its own sake. It is a faster, more reliable American metals supply chain.
You will:
· Set the technical strategy and engineering roadmap for the company
· Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering team
· Establish a durable architecture across customer, commercial, and manufacturing systems
· Stay close enough to the code to review critical designs and unblock difficult work
· Turn company priorities into clear technical plans, owners, and delivery dates
· Raise the standard for reliability, security, testing, observability, and documentation
· Work directly with sales, operations, finance, and manufacturing to understand real workflows
· Build an engineering culture that values speed, judgment, ownership, and direct user contact
· Make thoughtful build-versus-buy decisions and manage technical risk
· Measure whether engineering work improves customer experience and factory performance
You are:
· A strong technical leader who can move between architecture, execution, and people management
· Still technically sharp and willing to get into the details
· Experienced shipping and operating business-critical software
· Clear about priorities and able to make decisions with incomplete information
· A direct, thoughtful communicator who raises the performance of the people around you
· Comfortable working with both engineers and factory operators
· Motivated by measurable business and operational outcomes
· Low ego, high ownership, and steady under pressure
Nice to have:
· Experience in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, or industrial software
· Experience with optimization, data products, or production machine learning
· Experience scaling an engineering team in a fast-growing company
· Comfort using AI tools to improve engineering speed and quality
Benefits:
· Equity in Nox Metals
· Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
This role is full time, in person in Los Angeles.
