Each year, 2.5 trillion hours are spent on household chores. At Matic, we’re on a mission to recapture that lost time, and we’re doing it by revolutionizing home robotics.
Our first product, also called Matic, is a Wall-E-esque floor cleaning robot. We've built what amounts to "full self-driving in the home” with real-time 3D mapping, adaptive path-tracking, and a precise semantic understanding of the home. Our breakthroughs in spatial AI allow Matic to work reliably in real homes, using only RGB cameras and neural networks running on-device.
Privacy First
What happens in the home, stays in the home. Our robots are private by design, with all data processing performed by the robot itself, not in the cloud.
Our Approach
Before the iPhone, consumers adopted several distinct devices; cell phones, PDAs, and portable music players each served a particular need. We believe in a similar progression for home robotics, starting with single-purpose robots and building iteratively toward more complex capabilities over time.
Our Culture
Matic is a tight-knit and collaborative team, singularly focused on building products our customers will cherish. We're ultra-hardworking people committed to solving tough problems that save precious time and energy.
About the roleHelp shape how people live with a robot in their home. At Matic, we’re bringing advanced robotics into everyday life, and design plays a central role in making that experience feel natural. We’re looking for a Product Design Intern with curiosity, a strong eye for craft, and a drive to turn ideas into something people can experience. You’ll work closely with design and engineering to explore new possibilities and make the product more intuitive, thoughtful, and delightful to use. Your time will be a mix of exploring concepts, building prototypes, sharing ideas, and refining interactions. You’ll use Figma and AI tools to bring concepts to life, test how they feel, and help the team decide what to build. With room to experiment, you’ll contribute to meaningful product work while developing your own design judgment.
What You Will Do
Explore and design experiences that connect people, software, and the physical world.
Translate complex problems into clear flows, thoughtful interactions, and polished interfaces.
Build interactive prototypes with Figma and AI tools to evaluate concepts and communicate design intent.
Present your thinking, explore different directions, and refine your work through experimentation and team critique.
Collaborate with engineers to understand possibilities, work through constraints, and bring ideas into the product.
Follow designs through implementation, paying attention to the details that shape how an experience feels.
Contribute to a consistent visual and interaction language across Matic’s product experience.
What You Bring
Curiosity about technology and a habit of asking how an experience could be better.
Strong foundations in interaction and visual design, including layout, typography, hierarchy, and composition.
A portfolio that shows thoughtful problem-solving, design craft, and your approach to developing ideas. School, personal, and internship projects are welcome.
Comfort working in Figma and enthusiasm for exploring AI tools in your design process.
The ability to communicate your ideas clearly and explain the decisions behind your work.
Openness to feedback and a willingness to experiment, iterate, and learn.
Care for the small details and an interest in how they contribute to the whole experience.
Nice to Have
Experience building functional prototypes with AI tools or code.
Familiarity with motion design or spatial interactions.
An understanding of mobile design patterns, accessibility, or design systems.
Interest in consumer technology, robotics, and products that connect digital and physical experiences.
Portfolio (Required)
Show us how you think and what you make. We’d like to see the questions you explored, the approaches you tried, and the decisions that shaped your work. Interactive prototypes, experiments, and short demos are welcome alongside finished designs.
If you used AI tools, tell us how they supported your process and where your design judgment guided the outcome.
Please include your portfolio password, if applicable.
