About Critical Loop
Critical Loop is shaping the next generation of energy systems by building the integrated edge grid of the future. Specializing in advanced energy management and battery control systems, Critical Loop empowers businesses and communities to seamlessly unite distributed energy resources for faster, more reliable, and affordable grid access. With deep expertise in grid modernization and a passion for creating resilient, responsive energy solutions, Critical Loop drives innovation at the intersection of technology and energy.
About the Role:
We build grid-scale power products, and we build them fast. We need an engineer who owns a product's electrical design from conception to first prototype, and through production release. That is this role. You will own the single-lines, the component selection, the BOMs, and the change orders on products, and you will build the design process that sits behind them.
What You’ll Do:
Own the system-level electrical design of our products: single-lines, protection ratings, grounding, and component selection.
Take products from first prototype to production release, and own the handover to Production.
Author and own the product documentation and the process behind it: requirements, design reviews, and engineering change orders.
Release and maintain electrical BOMs and single-line drawings under revision control.
Run the power system studies yourself: load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
Work directly with the mechanical, thermal, and controls leads. The electrical design has to survive their constraints.
Decide what we build in-house and what we buy, then take cost out of the electrical BOM without losing compliance margin.
Keep designs compliant with the NEC and the applicable UL standards.
What We’re Looking For:
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of electrical design on power systems.
Has specified or built switchgear, custom power panels, or other high-power electrical assemblies.
Applies the NEC and other relevant standards to real designs, from intent rather than recall.
Runs their own studies: load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash. ETAP or SKM.
Proficient in industry-standard electrical CAD.
Has made build versus buy and cost-down calls, and owned the outcome.
Authorized to work in the United States. We do not sponsor visas.
Preferred
Experience with battery energy storage, microgrids, or other DERs.
Has owned documentation and process after the design phase closed: ECO systems, revision control, PLM.
Familiarity with UL 508A, UL 9540, or UL 3141.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Utility interconnection and AHJ experience.
Work Authorization: Critical Loop does not provide visa sponsorship for this role. Please do not apply for this role if at any time (now or in the future) you will need immigration support (i.e H-1B, TN, STEM OPT training plans etc.).
At Critical Loop, we're committed to rewarding and supporting our team. Our benefits package includes equity ownership through stock options, giving you a stake in our success, along with comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, and vision) through an HRA with a generous allowance. We also provide a retirement savings plan and unlimited paid time off so you can recharge and maintain work-life balance.
