Base is hiring an Electrical Engineering Lead to set the technical direction for every electrical system we build: inverters, battery management systems, and microgrid interconnect devices. You've taken power electronics from napkin sketch to high-volume production and field deployment, and now you want to build the team that does it next. You'll lead engineers and still be the best debugger in the lab. What You'll Do Set the electrical architecture across the product line: specs, topology, schematic and layout strategy, bring-up, validation, and reliability. Hire, mentor, and lead a team of electrical engineers. Set the bar for design rigor, validation, and documentation. Drive power converter, battery pack, BMS, and low-voltage embedded design and validation. Own end-of-line production testers. Work with firmware, mechanical, test, reliability, and manufacturing to move products from prototype to volume. Run down the hardest system-level issues across power, controls, and communications. Drive design iterations from field data and manufacturing feedback. What You'll Bring 7+ years designing electrical systems for energy storage, inverters, EV charging, motor drives, or similar high-power products. Products you've taken from architecture through production ramp and field deployment. Strong PCB design (Altium preferred) and hands-on bring-up: you can solder, probe, wire, and debug with the best of them. Control theory applied to power conversion: loop compensation, sensor bandwidth, filtering, and stability. A track record of leading or mentoring engineers. Preferred Skills BSEE or higher with a power electronics focus. Transient thermal simulation in MATLAB or Python. Embedded systems, microcontrollers, and Python for test automation and data analysis. CAN, LIN, or Ethernet. Designing products for UL, CSA, and IEC certification. High-volume manufacturing and DFM/DFT. Electric motor design or mechanical integration. About the Team Our hardware team designs, validates, and ships the batteries, inverters, and grid interconnect devices inside every Base home. We keep the hard parts in-house, from power electronics and firmware integration to mechanical and thermal design, and take each product from first prototype to high-volume production. Homeowners across the country rely on Base for whole-home backup and lower electricity bills. Our network of home batteries also helps keep the grid stable as demand climbs from AI, electrification, and extreme weather. We build in-house and expand at a speed and cost incumbents can't match, and this team makes that possible. Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive. Our Values First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules. Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing. Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset. Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results. Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information. Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in. Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things. Do the best work of your life at Base.
