Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
The Community You Will Join:
Airbnb's Public Policy team works closely with federal, state and municipal governments, legislators, regulators, public entities, industry associations, academia, our host community and the broader public. We introduce them to Airbnb, highlight the social and economic contribution our community makes to Mexico and its local communities, and share best practices from around the world.
Our goal is twofold. We want policymakers to understand the regulatory challenges that affect our hosts and to find models that work for cities, towns and their residents. We also want to help Mexican society embrace an innovative, collaborative economy where everyone can belong.
As part of a wider regional policy team, we take part in many local, state and national conversations at once. We engage governments directly and involve our community and partners in making the case for fair, progressive home sharing rules. Our work is organized in local campaign pods that draw on a wide range of tools: detailed policy analysis, strategic partnerships, policy media, community organizing, digital tactics, polling, data science and research, and persuasive policy narratives.
The Difference You will Make:
The Public Policy Campaign Manager leads the design and execution of successful policy campaigns in Mexico, working with the Public Policy Lead on both daily operations and overall strategy. You will draft and run integrated engagement plans, using in-person and digital tools to move key stakeholders toward specific policy goals in response to active or developing legislation and regulation.
A central part of the role is building trust with local authorities. You will help them understand the contribution our community makes, and engage them in creating fair legal and regulatory frameworks that embrace the potential of the sharing economy.
You are meticulously organized, detail-oriented and focused on solutions. You see the big picture, prioritize strategically, and know which information and data to escalate to leadership. You turn big ideas into policy with a positive, creative outlook, and you build strong relationships with internal teams and stakeholders in Mexico, the region and globally.
A Typical Day:
- Develop and implement Airbnb's legislative and public policy activities in Mexico, including advocacy priorities, positions and strategies.
- Review legislative and regulatory language, draft comments and research issues to provide analysis on proposals affecting Airbnb's priorities.
- Build and represent Airbnb in coalitions and collaborations that advance our advocacy goals, creating them from scratch when needed.
- Maintain relationships with an extensive network of contacts in local, state and national legislative, executive and administrative offices, as well as allied groups and coalition partners.
- Represent Airbnb in meetings with government and elected officials, industry associations, Airbnb hosts and other stakeholders.
- Represent Airbnb at public speaking engagements as directed by the Public Policy Lead for Mexico & CCA.
- Recruit and manage consultants and agencies, and marshal external resources to execute campaign plans.
- Advise Airbnb teams on public policy matters to guide the development of products, services and policies.
- Work closely with local business partners so that campaign plans fit with business priorities and outcomes.
- Monitor and track legislation and regulatory matters, and advise the company on policy challenges.
- Report progress accurately and regularly, and flag roadblocks in a timely way.
Your Expertise:
- At least 10 years of experience in public policy, direct lobbying or government relations in a business, political, governmental, legislative or regulatory context, such as tourism and accommodation, e-commerce and platform regulation, housing and landlord/tenant law, or tax.
- Proven experience managing complex regulatory and political issues, whether in-house, as a consultant, or in politics, campaigns or advocacy groups.
- Proficiency in regulatory and legislative drafting.
- Ability to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects at once and navigate a matrix organization with many stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including planning, memo-writing and basic budgeting.
- Creative and entrepreneurial, with a proven track record of being proactive and results-driven without sacrificing quality.
- Excellent communicator with strong presentation, writing and interpersonal skills.
- Full fluency in Spanish and English, reading, writing and speaking.
- Acute attention to detail; extremely organized and able to help keep others organized.
- Sound judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Poised under pressure, flexible, and positive about change and challenges.
- Able to work independently and as a team player, with a sense of humor and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving, sometimes stressful environment.
- Passion for Airbnb, home sharing and the collaborative economy.
- Nice to have: experience managing people and developing teams.
- Nice to have: experience in a startup, e-commerce or other high-growth company.
