# Does remote mean you can work from anywhere?

No. ‘Remote’ tells you that a role can be performed away from an office; it does not tell you which countries the employer accepts applicants from. Look for a separate statement naming applicant locations. When that statement is missing, worldwide eligibility is unknown.

## 01 / Read the statement about the applicant

Illustrative wording: ‘Remote within the United States’ describes a narrower location policy than ‘Remote worldwide’. ‘Candidates must be based in Canada’ is also an applicant restriction, even if the title simply says remote. Read the body of the posting as well as the location label.

An employer’s London office, a US salary range, or a list of international customers does not establish where this particular role can be performed. Prefer wording about the candidate’s residence, the permitted work location, or the countries supported for the role.

## 02 / A region is still a boundary

Europe, EMEA and APAC describe different geographic scopes. Employers may use them loosely or provide an explicit list of countries. Keep the original wording visible and check whether the employer names exceptions. A broad region label does not prove that every country in that region is supported for employment.

CanIBeHired groups stated geography for discovery and separates country-specific policies from explicit worldwide policies. This is a reading aid, not evidence of an employer’s payroll registration or legal permission to hire in your circumstances.

## 03 / A location match leaves other questions

After finding a compatible location policy, review working hours, sponsorship, authorization, citizenship and office attendance separately. A posting can permit your country while still requiring a schedule or qualification you cannot meet. Silence on those conditions remains an open question.

## 04 / Ask one precise question

Try: ‘The role is described as remote. I would perform the work from [country]. Does the applicant location policy for this specific opening support that arrangement?’ If the posting gives conflicting geography, quote both passages in the question.

Confirm the current wording on the original employer posting before applying. A verified source check records when the listing was retrieved; it does not guarantee that the role or its requirements have stayed unchanged.

## Your next step

Compare the posting’s stated location policy with your country.
